A Night to Remember: $61,655 Raised at the 2023 NWC Charity Ball

Since its launch in 2022, the Northland Women’s Club has experienced incredible growth—expanding from just 12 founding members to over 70 inspiring women across the region. To celebrate this momentum, we hosted our very first major event in the North: the NWC 2023 Charity Ball.

Held at the Bay of Islands Golf Club, the evening brought together members, supporters, and local leaders for a night of glamour, community, and giving. One hundred percent of live auction proceeds went directly to The Breast Cancer Foundation NZ for Northland. Every guest received a luxury goody bag valued at $900, making the night not only meaningful but memorably indulgent.

We are proud to announce that we raised an impressive $61,655—a huge success and a testament to the generosity of our community.

Where the Funds Are Going: Real Impact in Northland

The Breast Cancer Foundation NZ has used the funds raised to directly support a range of initiatives that will make a lasting difference in the Northland region:

  • Northland Breast Cancer Register Update
3.5 years of patient data has now been captured (with a goal of 5 years by end of next year). This registry helps track survival rates and care quality for over 1,000 patients and informs crucial performance reports like:

    • BreastSurgANZ Key Performance Indicator Report

    • Sweet Louise’s Metastatic Cases Report (including local breakdowns)

    • Regional reports for Breast Cancer Support Northland Trust

    • The upcoming 40,000 Voices report

  • Medical Training & Insights
Northland’s breast cancer nurses and specialists attended the inSIGhts conference, gaining access to the latest research and international perspectives. Local doctors will also be invited to future specialist training days hosted by Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

  • Māori Health Equity & Research
Funding is also supporting Dr. Maxine Ronald (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Wai, Ngāti Tapu) as the inaugural Māori Breast Cancer Research Fellow—a collaborative initiative with Breast Cancer Cure. Dr. Ronald’s work focuses on tackling inequities in breast cancer outcomes for Māori and Pacific women, while also strengthening the Māori surgical workforce.

  • New Breast Care Nurse in Whangārei
A Breast Nurse has now been placed in Whangārei, building community relationships and driving early engagement and support across the region.
